Ordnance Survey to be Sold?

A footnote in the pre-budget speech by Chancellor Darling said that Ordnance Survey was going to be 'sold'.
This is along with the Met Office and Royal Mint.
What will this mean to the NLPG and the much 'loved' Mapping Service Agreement?
As we know all to well, Ordnance Survey have never been the easiest company to get along with and many would say that their working practices and inflexible licensing agreements are the stumbling block to all manner of mapping possibilities, opportunities and efficiencies.
We saw this yesterday with a prime example of the perceived bad attitude from Ordnance Survey when they stamped all over a number of projects with a size 10 boot.
Should they go 'completely privately owned' this may well make them even more difficult to get along with.
Yet who knows, it could be the dawn of a new era in mapping in which freedom reigns and the bonds of licensing handcuffs are removed.
It might take an entire change of personnel however.
